Did you know Backstay Wine Co was started from a library? I was 6 months pregnant and didn’t have a vineyard. Or a winemaking facility. Or a crusher, de-stemmer, barrels, storage warehouse or a million other things you need to make, store and sell wine. I didn’t even have a computer, as we had just moved and the hard drive on our laptop had fried right before our move (side note — be sure to back up your devices regularly as we hadn’t and ended up losing a bunch of personal pictures from our first years of marriage!). I didn’t have the funds to plant vines, buy a tractor, pay for harvest … and I refused to take out a...
We had just moved to a new state with no industry contacts, my husband had changed jobs and companies, we bought our first home …. and I was 6 months pregnant. “This is a great time to start a business” said no pregnant mom, ever (🤣). But, despite my changing body and the long to-do-list that I had to check off to prepare for our first born, I knew that I wanted to create an independent income stream from home. The business was profitable in its first year. Almost 5 years later I now have an amazing team that helps with operations and events while I run the business primarily from my out-of-state home. I have either been pregnant /...

Jonquil found us at a Whole Foods in Portland, Oregon; and we are so happy she did! Her fiance (now husband), Erik were selecting wines for a wine tasting (an idea we love!) to narrow down and choose their 'top picks' for their upcoming reception menu. Our 2015 Pinot Gris rose to the top for one of their wine menu selections. A classic Oregon varietal, our Pinot Gris is light, refreshing and goes great with appetizers, salads, chicken and desserts. Erik and Jonquil got married on 5.28.17 in Portland, Oregon. Congratulations you two! We are honored you chose to celebrate with our wine. We raise our glass to you, cheers to many, many years of health, love and happiness. “This is what...
